Just curious for those who do/have tandem feed?

Not a situation I'm likely to find myself in soon as ds one is no longer feeding and I'm not pregnant but I'm just curious. What happens when DC2 is born does milk turn back to colostrum? So then does dc1 have to have colostrum for a few days? Also do you get the engorged milk coming in thing?

Yes, you get colostrum (resulting in interesting toddler poos) and then the milk is tailored for the youngest nursling. Still got the engorgement too and found it worse the second time around- not sure if this is due to tandem nursing but anecdotally I have heard tandem nursers say that they had worse oversupply when feeding two.

Thanks for reply, It would be something i would do but always worried newborn would go without. It's good to know that milk is tailored to newborn.

Nope, they never go without. A lot of tandem feeders find that toddlers are good for reducing engorgement a bit to help the newborn get latched on. It's also really sweet to watch them holding hands as they feed :)

This is a really good book if you want to know more about tandem nursing.
