Has anyone changed from C&G comfort back to first milk?

Hi there,

Just looking for advice really. My 14wk old DS has been on comfort milk since he was 3 weeks old due to colic and constipation. Now he is older the colic has gone and his bowels are fine.

Was just wondering if I could change him back to first milk as there seems no reason to keep him on the comfort milk.

Has anyone had any experience of this and how did you change him back? Gradually? Also were there any effects on your child.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi browneyed
I recently changed my ds (now 26 weeks) from comfort milk to first milk due to lack of supply in the shops (It was Aptamil). I sought advice on here and decided to mix the two first, hopefully increasing the proportion of first milk to comfort until the last couple of days has been all first milk.
It has had no effect whatsoever. I wanted to do it gradually so it wasn't a shock to his digestive system.
However your lo is only 3 months, and my ds was still colicky until about 5 months, so maybe wait a bit longer to be on the safe side.
Wouldn't the colic to return

I meant 'gradually increasing' not 'hopefully' - phone autocorrect!

Thanks for the great advice gruffalo!

I certainly don't want the colic to return as my LO has been sleeping through the night and don't want to unsettle him.

I think I will wait a bit longer but am glad to hear there were no side effects in your case.

I also used aptamil comfort for my lo and have just been advised by my hv to switch back to first stage (he is 6 months now). I tried doing this around 3 months but also had bad experience of this as lo wasn't ready to switch! I'm still not sure if he's ready (but that's another issue!) so my advice is wait for a little while longer to be on the safe side!

I switched DS from c&g comfort to c&g1 when he was 14 weeks. He had horrendous colic until week 12. However, he was also on colief in his milk so i wanted to change the milk and then wean the colief off verrrry slowly.

I just changed straight back over one day, as i have read that mixing milk can upset babies tummies.

Good luck!
