Possibly controversial - what are your opinions on drinking while breast feeding?

Possibly controversial, but our nct group (we're all post natal now, some ebf, 2 mixed) were discussing this. I know the medical stance seems to be to have a glass of wine 90minutes or more before a feed is fine, but our group leader suggested to have one DURING is fine too as it takes 30mins to hit your milk.

What if you think you've got a 90min window and don't - you can't not feed them? One of our group who is ebf and a doctor has a small glass most nights and says it's fine.

Sounds awful but I'd really like just a small glass once or twice a week.. (didn't at all.while pg)

If you can look after yourself after a drink, you can look after a baby I used this test, and still do 18 month later.

The Alcohol content in your blood is then same as in your milk, but it's still not like the baby is downing a glass of wine if you've had one, as the alcohol is spread in you're blood stream

I've always had a small occasional drink even at 1 week old (champagne on day 2 & small glass of Guinness for iron on day 3-5). I then didn't drink until we went on holiday with her around week 12 and had a few drinks in that one week.

Now at 18 months, I will drink on a weekend (half a bottle of wine) and if she needs a feed, I'd feed her.

It's personal to everyone, when little little, I wouldn't have drank every night, but an occasional class of wine isn't going to hurt IMO (no idea if there is medical evidence for this but dd is healthy and perfect!)

I was always mindful of co sleeping if I'd had even just a small one, in that I wouldn't co sleep! It's not safe and could be dangerous.

I've actually stopped drinking now due to medication, but I had no problems with it, I think that small amounts! it's one of those things that people are overparanoid about

I drank again, small amounts! while pregnant too though

Red wine isn't ideal if they are wearing a white sleepsuit and if you drink whilst feeding them (not a mammoth feed, just a normal feed) then the alcohol won't hour your blood until they're off and you have the longest time possible before they feed again.

Didn't have more than 1 glass whilst he was tiny and even at 9 months hold off on my second glad until he's tucked up in his cot.

It is fine to drink and feed - so little crosses to your milk.

I used to have a glass most nights and I didn't worry about timings in relation to feeds.
