Advice on how long to express for to keep my milk supply going while away from DS

I am going away for a night &2 days &leaving my 12wks old DS with his papa. First time-eek! While I'm away I know I will need to express ever 4hours or so to keep my milk supply going. Do I need to completely empty each breast every 4hrs, empty one breast then 4hrs later the other or just express a bit from each. I'm not very good at expressing & really want to keep BF when I can back with a good supply so any advice would be appreciated

When I expressed I did both sides everytime and emptied each breast as best I could. I had to do it for 4 days due to DD needing treatment and not being able to feed and was able to carry on BFing with no problems once she could feed again. I'm not sure it this is the correct way to do it but it worked well for me. I was basically trying to mimic her normal feeding pattern as best I could. HTH
