Anyone else's baby take FOREVER to finish a bottle???

Seriously, by the time she has finished one, it's almost time for the next one!1

It is really getting me down as it feels like I just spend all day holding a bottle.

I make a 7oz bottle every 4 hours. She is 17 weeks btw.

She will drink 3oz/3.5oz roughly straight down but then won't drink the rest (or almost the rest) until she is falling asleep around 2hrs later.

I was asked how much/how often she drinks and said oh 7oz every 4 hours. But then it dawned on me that actually it is 3.5oz every 2 hours!!! Funny thing is at night (when she is drowsy) she will drink 6/7oz straight down no probs.

Arrrghhhh what is going on!!

She is just over 12lbs btw so on the small side. Maybe she just needs 3.5oz every 2 hours??!! That seems crazy though! I struggle to adapt to this because my son (who was huge) was drinking 10oz bottles at 14 weeks straight down!!!

Just saw this in active convos......my DD used to take 1.5 - 2 hours on each bottle - I swear my sofa still bears the inprint of my hefty arse from all the hours I spent there. She is 19 mo now and eats pretty much everything :-)

It is just so debilitating because I cant do anything other than feed her all bloody day long!

My 2 yr old is really starting to suffer with the lack of attention Sad

Oh god I feel your pain my dd used to take about 2 hours to finish a bottle. I can remember the feeling of wanting to rip my head off!! I now joke that I wish I could have just squirted it her mouth!!!!

I can't remember when it was but eventually she did start to speed up.

I know I used to struggle to even shower some days!?

(((hugs))) to you

What else is happening with the feed? Tongue tied babies can struggle with bottles too.

naughtynancy · 09/01/2013 11:45

Well after the first good drink she just doesn't seem to want it. Pushes it out with her tongue or turns her head from side to side to get away. She will only finish it as she is falling asleep, very rarely whilst eyes open and awake.

She does suffer from terrible wind but is actually very good at bringing it up. She will do bug burps during her feed but just before her next bottle will writhe with tummy wind and will need to force it all out the other end, so there is obviously more wind getting in there even though she seems to be bringing most of it back up. This second point maybe be totally irrelevant and unconnected!

Exactly the same as my DD - she only ever really drank if she was falling asleep, it used to drive me mad. Life was an endless cycle to making bottles and giving bottles, with no other time in between. I used to really prepare for each bottle when she was very young. Laptop close by, telly and snacks ready.....toilet before we started. One day something clicked and she just started drinking (although, I have to say, she was about 1 when this happened). (Again, not very helpful!)
