Calling American Mums - USA formulas - which ones are good and which ones are not?

When in the UK, my DD was on Aptimil. I rang Aptimil to ask what name they traded under in the US, and they informed me that the US is a closed market - meaning, only formula made in the US can be sold in the US.

So ......... in the myriad of formulas in the shops here in California, can anyone give me some advice as to which ones are known for being more "top end" or "quality"?

I wish I could help you, my DD is 12 now, but when she was on formula it was ProSobee Soy. If Nutramigin is still made, you can try that also. I am sure that someone else will be along soon to help you.

Enfamil is the formula brand and I would trust the ones that they make. See the ones in that line made by Mead Johnson.

I'm in Canada and Enfamil is the one I've started to use, also used by my friend who is a paed

Koalabear, when I had my dd, two years ago, I was told that there really wasn't a significant difference between all the formulas in the States. They are all regulated by the \link{http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/596_baby.html\ Food and Drug Administration.} I used Similac there, simply because it was what we were given in the hospital, and I'd heard that changing formula could be difficult on their stomachs.

I used 'Good Start' by Nestle/Carnation. The difference with this one is that its 100% whey protein based so worked for my DD who was allergic to casein. The top brand names (and most expensive) are Enfamil and Similac and both brands are used in the Maternity hospitals. Though when I asked our paed here which formula to buy, she said buy the cheapest one as they all HAVE to be up to the same standards by law to be sold as baby formula. That said, as another poster noted, its recommended to stay on the same one, so if you like Enfamil, and baby is happy, I would stick to that.

In england ds was on aptamil, in chicago he swapped to enfamil with no problems at all.
