Hi, this is ds2 so you'd think I'd have this sussed by now but since introducing solids everything seems to be going a bit to pot!

At the moment ds has...

7/7.30 breast + porridge with fruit
10.30ish breast
(sleep 11 - 1)
1.30 breast
2pm solids (veg mix + yoghurt usually)
4.30 breast
5pm solids (protein / veg mix)
7/7.30 breast
10.30ish dream feed of expressed breastmilk

My concern is that the solids are meaning ds isn't taking as much at the breast and, this week for some reason he's decided he only wants to bf from my left side! I feel like I need to keep expressing at random points in the day to make sure my supply doesn't disappear.

Would you cut down on his milk? I think my aim should be

milk + breakfast
mid morning milk
lunch with water
mid afternoon milk
tea with water
milk at bedtime

hopefully no night feeds!

What would you do?

DD has to fit in with her older brother, so we have -

7am ish Milk
8ish Breakfast, BLWed so something like toast, omelette fingers, pancakes
9ish Quick feed
10ish Snack, bits of fruit, possibly toast if not had for breakfast, bit of cheese
12ish lunch, today was pasta with tomato, rosemary, veg and chicken
Quick feed before hand, more milk afterwards before nap
3ish big milk feed, offer snack but not much eaten at quite full, something like cheese and crackers, hummus and veg etc
5:30 dinner, risotto and fruit after
6:30 Milk before bath
7:15 Milk before bed

She has quite a few milk feeds as she is fed on demand, but she has reflux and only has 5 min feeds usually so it's not too onerous. I offer mik before food then afterwards, she doesn't always want it but stops her being too ravenous! I offer water at all snacks/meals.

8.30am porridge/weetabix with fruit & cow's milk

1.30 breastmilk
3.00 snack (e.g 1/2 sandwich, cheese, breadsticks, custard, rice cakes)
4.30 dinner (e.g chicken, potatoes & veg)

Also feed in demand & do similar as above with lots offline feeds & slightly less snacks.Smile

At 6m milk is still the main source of nutrition, so he should always have a breastfeed before solids. Your revised routine sounds fine. Breakfast, lunch and supper of a couple of tablespoons of solids (or better yet, let him eat what he wants via BLW) should be fine.

My DD 7months is something like this

7:00/7:30 BF
8:00/8:30 Breakfast
9:00/9:30 Nap
11:15/11:30 BF
12:30/1:00 Lunch
2:00 Nap
3:30/4:00 BF
5:30 Dinner
6:30/6:45 BF to sleep after bath
Anytime between 10:30/11:00 BF

I'm very lucky that I have a baby that sleeps and I can almost set my watch by her.

Some days she will refuse a meal at lunch or dinner and just makes up for it with her bedtime feed. She generally has purées but I give her finger foods alongside.

My almost 6 month old does something like:

4-5am breastfeed and back to sleep
730/8am breastfeed
8.30/9 fruit or porridge
930 nap
11ish breastfeed
12- 1230 lunch (puree/finger foods) if she's awake but often napping again by now
3ish breastfeed - quite a big one as she is not really interested in 11am milk when there's other stuff to see
430 another nap

5 offer breast then tea

645 big long snuggly breastfeed and bed

then anywhere between none and 4 feeds before we get up and do it all over again
