Anyone's baby reject other for us after Infatrini?

5 month old DS has been on Infatrini top ups after BF. He started these by NG tube two weeks ago and has been having them by cup for the past week. We have finished the prescribed Infatrini and the dietician asked us to continue with ordinary formula.

DS won't drink it (Hipp Organic). He won't drink expressed breastmilk either. Has anyone had this problem? Do I just need to try different brands? Thanks.

Sorry. Title should read 'reject other formula...'. It's late!

Be kinda how old is he and do you still nee the top ups?

SJisontheway · 15/12/2012 09:08

If its just regular formula surely bf would be better. Maybe your supply needs a chance to build up?
Anyway, yes dd1 would happily alternateur between infatrini and sma, but refused aptimil so some definitely taste better than others. Maybe try a few of the small cartons so you're not wasting money trying them out.

Thanks. We have an appointment with the paediatrician and dietician on Monday, so will decide whether we need to carry on with top ups then. I agree that breastmilk would be best, but he won't take it from a cup or bottle.

He did actually sleep for longer than an hour at a time with the Infatrini. We liked it for the last night time feed!

Do you think he is ok at the moment on the bfs? I'm assuming that because you are happy to wait until the appointment he seems fine?

belindarose · 15/12/2012 19:00

He's fantastic, thanks. I'm hoping they'll say to just continue with BF and solids, rather than needing formula. I do worry about the impact on supply but really had to do what they said in the hospital as he was very underweight (91st- 0.4th centile then norovirus...).

He had a week of having his tummy filled at night with Infatrini via NG tube, so I suppose that is why his night time sleep is worse now than it ever was. It will pass...

How has his weight gain been on the infatrini? If good then I guess now you know for sure that it was lack of calories causing the lack of gain. So milk transfer issues of some sort perhaps. Could you get some formula into him by mixing it into baby rice?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/12/2012 14:46

samia her Lo sounds happy and content on BM. Baby rice will have far fewer calories than the formula and BM and will fill up his tummy with something that has little nutritional value and will leave less room for the milk. It is also nhs advice that solids, such as baby rice, sound not given to a baby before 6 months.

The ops baby is five months old I think she will know whether or not he is satisfied,

aamia · 16/12/2012 17:22

JJJ do you know the backstory? Very little gain on ebf, early high calorie weaning and top ups to get out of hospital recently after d&v due to such low weight.

Was probably a silly idea, just hoping he will accept enough food and gain well long term for you Belindarose. Then you can enjoy him without all that worrying!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/12/2012 18:58

Oh ok, perhaps a different brand of formula then instead of baby rice?
