Tongue tie in 6 month old

Does anyone have experience of having tongue tie snipped in an older baby?
My DS has a tie, he is EBF with no major probs, but recently dropped a little through the centiles and I'm concerned the TT is preventing him from feeding effectively now he is older and needs more, he still feeds V frequently.
But also concerned that if we do have it done if might cause more problems.

My DD had her tongue tie snipped at 18 weeks then re-snipped the day before she turned 6 months. They gave her some drops in her mouth that numbed the area then snipped it. She was obviously sore that evening and needed calpol but feeding was much better afterwards.

Was it done on the NHS at 6 months?

Yep both times, same doctor, I rang asking him to review it as I thought it had either reattached or there was a residual tie that hasn't been apparent the first time, he saw me and snipped it there and then.

We got DS's tongue tie done by laser revision privately when he was six months. NHS would have put him under a general anaesthetic to do it (which I wasn't having). I'm afraid it's done nothing to space out the length between his feeds, and therefore give me more sleep which I was desperately hoping for. We thought it resolved his gagging and vomiting when he was eating solids (which was one of the other reasons we got it done) but he's teething again, which he was also doing when we got the TT done, and he's started gagging and vomiting again so I wonder if it's just a side affect of that rather than the TT Hmm

It hasn't done him any harm, but it's impossible to tell if it's done him any good or whether it's prevented any future problems. It's a very tough decision to make for that reason. I wish someone would do more research on it...

Lots of good info on the FB support group. I'd get it done sooner rather than later if you're thinking of doing it. We had a private laser revision for DS1 at nearly 3 years and it was fairly traumatic for him. DS2's revision at 4 weeks was a breeze.

It is hard to know whether it'll cause problems. At 6 months DS1 was showing no issues due to TT (I didn't know he had one then). But by toddlerhood it was causing problems with dribble and speech.

Hi I’m just wondering has anyone’s little ones had a tounge tie snipped at 6 months old??? And will I get in trouble for going privately? I’ve mentioned it to doctors before and midwifes and they’re not bothered, health visitors said because he is feeding and is gaining weight they might not do it under the nhs? I’m just wondering would I get in to trouble x
