What's the best way of expressing?

Does it matter when you do it? I just want to have enough to do one bottle feed per day, and also ensure my supply remains plentiful in the hope of avoiding too much cluster feeding etc. I know it's not really the done thing but I am happier having some sort of schedule of its at all possible, does anyone have any advice on whether this can work?

I'm planning on just hand expressing a bit after every feed, is that a sensible plan?

For the first few months I always expressed in the morning, just after DD's first feed of the day (well, the first feed that I got up for and did downstairs). I would find it a pain to hand express after each feed, it can be quite messy and if your baby's just had a good feed you might well not be able to get much, if any out. Plus your baby might well be filling their nappy/doing other things that need your attention straight after a feed. Also, I had a massive supply in the first couple of months (still do now at 20 weeks but has settled down a bit) and DD still cluster fed lots in the evening, on the upside in her case it meant that she only woke once or twice in the night so cluster feeding isn't necessarily a bad thing at all!

I always expressed before a feed - usually the first of the day. You can't shortchange the baby as milk is produced in response to demand but I found that I was 'fullest' at that time of day. Otherwise it would have taken me forever to get enough for a bottle.

Also, I never found that plentiful supply made an iota of difference to cluster feeding!
