Vitamin drop for breastfed newborns?

My DN is 1 month old and fully breastfed. The HV has given my DS vitamin D tablets for her and vitamin drops (A, C and D) for my DN. She has reservations about giving the drops to my DN as according to the instructions on the box the drops are meant to be mixed with milk and she is breast feeding. It also says they are for babies 6 months+. She would like some advice on what to do. I have told her that as she has a good diet they are unnecessary.

She doesnt need the drops for the newborn. Once 6mthd i think they recomend vit d for bfed babies, tho there is debate over this issue.

this is what the nhs website says:

All babies and young children aged six months to five years should take a daily supplement containing vitamin D in the form of vitamin drops, to help them to meet the requirement set for this age group of 7-8.5 micrograms of vitamin D per day. However, babies who are fed infant formula will not need vitamin drops until they are receiving less than 500ml (about a pint) of infant formula a day, as these products are fortified with vitamin D. If you are breastfeeding your baby and you didn?t take vitamin D supplements throughout pregnancy, your health visitor may advise you to give your baby vitamin drops containing vitamin D from the age of one month.

Thank you for your replies. DS had looked at he NHS website, but is still unsure whether or not to give the drops to her DS and if she oes how to as the packet says to mix with milk and she doesn't express or bottle feed.

If she took vitamin D (e.g. Pregnacare or similar pregnancy support vitamin) during pregnancy and/or is taking a breastfeeding support vitamin now, she doesn't need to use the vitamin drops for her baby.

If she hasn't taken/isn't taking any of the above supplements, she may wish to use the drops for her baby. You can get syringes from pharmacies to administer medications directly into babies' mouths - just ask at the counter.
