8 week old ebf baby rarely feeding

Having a bit of a tricky patch with my 8 week old ebf DS2. He'll have about 3 good, long feeds a day: one last thing in the evening, one around 4am, and one around midday.

The rest of the time he'll suck reluctantly until the let-down kicks in then pull off and shout at me.

Surely he needs to feed more than this? I feel like he must be starving but I can't force him to feed!

He seems fine in himself; no fever, no excessive crying, alert, normal nappies...
I never experienced this with DS1 - he fed every 2hrs round the clock for over 6 months, and was a right fatty!

It's been like this for a couple of days or so. I wasn't particularly worried but he was weighed at his 8 week check today and has dropped a centile. The doctor wants me to come back in 2 weeks to check again as he has a posterior tongue tie.

If anyone can help in any way I'd be really grateful.

Could it be forceful letdown? There is some info on kellymom.

It sounds like behaviour consistent with the tongue tie. Is there anyone who can sort that for you?

I do have a forceful letdown and oversupply. As soon as he's choked once he'll refuse to feed again.

He has been diagnosed with a posterior tongue tie and clicks like mad when he feeds, taking down loads of air. Is 8 weeks a bit late to be getting it sorted?

Nope. I just got my 6 month old's done. Women with TT babies often assume forceful letdown and oversupply, when, in fact, it's the tongue tie. I'd get that sorted ASAP. There's a full list of symptoms in this article.

thanks elphaba. thing is I got ds1's 100% tt cut and it really didn't help with his ability to cope with my forceful letdown. it does spray right across the room! but good to know it might help. i'll see how he is when I see the doc again.

he fed 3x last night, an improvement, last at 5am, and has refused since. he's consistently refusing the right side which is worrying-don't want to lose my supply on the right. argh!
