Help! I think I've just given my baby "off" EBM

Ive just given my 5.5mth DD a bottle of EBM. I expressed it just under 48 hours ago and has been in the fridge since.

When she had finished I thought something smelt a bit funny and when I sniffed the teat it smelled sour as did the inside of the bottle.

I will be completely honest and say that u didn't smell the milk before I warmed it up as thought it would be fine less then 48 hours old as I thought 3 days was the limit for the fridge.

I feel awful incase I've given her bad milk and I've only just started getting her to take a bottle so don't want her to be ill incase it puts her off again. As well as I just don't want her to be ill.

Have you checked to see if your fridge is working properly? I leave breast milk out sometimes & if is still fine. Maybe you ate something that changed the taste?

I've given the bag of EBM I did yesterday a sniff and that smells fine and all the normal food/milk etc has never gone off. I could get a thermometer to check it though as would like to make sure. I plan on expressing every day so want to make sure her milk is kept safe.

It was definitely that sour smell as smelt like her cuddly toy did when she spat up a load of milk on it once

If it was bad she wouldn't have drunk it, so I wouldn't worry.

Thanks sam I did wonder that but she guzzled it down quite happily.

Nothing has come back up an hour and half later so fingers crossed it was ok.

The only thing I didn't think about giving her EBM as her first feed of the day... My bloody norks are going to explode! Can't wait to get her for her nap so I can express

My daughter would turn her nose up at "off" EBM. I was told that babies can tell if it's off or not. Breastmilk will keep for up to 8 hours at room temperature, or several days in the back of the fridge. Because we're all used to cows' milk we're not used to how long EBM keeps for. It has some amazing antibacterial and anti-viral properties that keep it fresh for a lot longer than cows' milk so don't worry too much.
