I have a full course of untouched antibitoics prescribed to me for mastitis on 23rd December. Thought I had it and because of Christmas etc, erred on the side of caution and GP prescribed them but said to give it a few days. Turned out to be a cold and a sore boob...

But now I have: flu symptoms, a temperature, sore, engorged type feeling breast which no amount of feeding relieves and the start of red patches on the breast.

Can I take the 3 month old antibiotics? What would you do?

how old is baby and have you tried cabbage?

ixel · 29/03/2006 16:13

Baby is 5 1/2 weeks. No cabbage as yet, as they dont have it in the shops near us... waiting for dh to get home via Tescos.

He needs to go bcak on breasts to drain them though... he will do a better job than a pump. Don't panick just look after yourself.
Try a hot bath or flanel before a feed.

yes you have mastitus when i went to docs with those symptoms i went into hospital and onto a drip for 24hrs so go to your docs again are you shivering one minuite and sweating the next? don't take old antibiotics as you may need a higher strength so go back to see your doctor on an emergancy visit

i thougth i was getting better but yesterday night nd today i feel dreadful. been taking nurofen. but i also have an extremely sore throat - am wondering if i have thehorrible bug going around work rather than mastitis

Sore throat is not a mastitis symptom... you might be really poorly Sad

popsycalindisguise · 31/03/2006 19:42

That is what I thought pupuce. might just have been engorged as ds2 has suddenly become less interested in feeding during the day...coincided with walking

Have you told the doctors it's mastitis? They should have triage appointments available for case like yours. I'd ring again and ask for a triage appointment.
