Do you have to stick to the same formula?

I asked dh to bring some formula home as running low, ds is a month old. He has been having cow and gate number 1, he has brought home a box of cow and gate hungry baby milk and a tin of sma gold. I'm not very clued up on bottle feeding and I'm guessing that he should be kept on the same stuff, in Which case I'll just give them to someone and he'll have to have the ready made emergency cartons till tommorow.

Can't see why it would make much of a difference. Hungry baby milk doesn't contain more calories, it just takes longer to digest. Not really clued up on SMA gold. Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows a bit more.

Thanks for the replys, I think I'll just make do with the cartons and give the other stuff to one of the mums at playgroup. I can feel a 6am tesco run coming on....

Swapping formula won't do him any harm though. If you look in the Mn archive there will be a few threads on changing brands.

The SMA Gold will be almost identical to his current milk - changing brand of first milk shouldn't cause any problems.

The 'hungry' milk is just hard to digest so that may cause wind/ stomach ache etc

Some people change over the course of a day too, offering formula in the day and the hungry baby formula once or twice at night.

I think they advise it just in case another brand causes upsets - so basically, if it isn't broke, why change it. But there is nothing inherently wrong with changing brands. The C&G Hungry Baby did actually make DD go longer between feeds so at a month old I wouldn't recommend using that, your baby is too young to have any less milk. But the SMA should be fine.

Thanks, people keep saying to try him on hungry milk, he wants 4 to 5 oz, every two hours never more than 2 and a half hours between feeds. But I just think he's too small, dosent help that most of said people are also suggesting crushed rusks! ;-/

Crushed rusks? Christ, he is a month old!! 4-5oz every 2-3 hours is about right, he has such a tiny tummy. I definitely wouldn't try the hungry milk yet, and I say that as someone who has used hungry milk for my baby.

If people are suggesting crushed rusks just ignore them, it's wrong for so many reasons not least because its a choking hazard and might kill him.

Not looked on here for a while. I just kept him on the same, as for the rusk thing there's no chance. I struggled to keep a straight face and not ask if they were taking the piss. thanks for all the replys. :-)
