3 days away from my baby

Springtime26 · 19/09/2012 21:04

My dd is four months old. I am bf currently but it has been difficult, with my baby being under weight and low supply. I didn't think I would still be bf when I agreed to work for 3 days. So in 3 days I won't see my baby. I plan to express twice a day. Will this effect my supply?
Many thanks

Can anyone help?

I think you need to speak to your work. A lot of places will make exceptions for nursing mothers, and will allow you time to feed your baby if she can be brought to you.

I also think you need to consider whether this is actually going to be possible; ie, will your DD take a bottle?

My dd does bottles of ebm or ff really well, so I know she won't starve.
The work I will be going is not my normal job, but for dh. If I don't do it he will have to pay someone else a significant sum, and we can't really afford that, so I am a bit stuck.
Help!

so are you staying overnight? That will be the issue.

I was working full time at four months so it's possible to express (i did two twice) and carry on BF. Especially if you build up some freezer supply first. You'll need a little over 1oz/hr that you're away.

if it's at home and working for your DH, then can you have whoever is looking after your baby to bring her to you for some feeds and express the rest of the time? Or regularly express through the day? Twice a day probably isn't going to be enough, especially as you mention you've had problems.

If you need to go away for the 3 days, can someone like your Mum come with you and look after the baby when you are not working so you can feed at night etc?
