16weeks & changed to feeding 2.5/3hrly from 6hrly at night?

Dd2 is breastfed. She feeds every 2ish hours in the day, snack feeds like dd1 used to do. Takes about 5/10mins to feed.

Very happy & content. Doesn't cry for feeds, doesn't cry at all tbh.

She was doing roughly 10-4 right up until about 9 weeks then gradually it's become less.

She just wakes up rooting and fidgeting or sucking her fist. Usually she'll go back off with her thumb or dummy but if not I know she's hungry.

Is it my milk quality? Growth spurt? She was born 8lb1.5 and was 14lb7 2 weeks a go. So she's gaining well and is a nice size.

And this week (she's not been pooing regular) she's been fidgety on my boob like pulling when sucking and arching back and feeding. Still not crying though just seems uncomfy.

Could be 4mth sleep regression. But tbh 2-3hrs is better than ds has ever done more 'normal' than 6hrs anyway ..

It's not as if she cries. Just hungry I guess? It really varies just so odd. Maybe that sleep regression!

She sounds just like my DD (who was 16 weeks yesterday), feeds every 2hrs during the day unless we're out and about when she will go a bit longer but still only feeds for about 5 or 10 mins. She's pretty contented, only really cries if she gets overtired (she fights going to sleep if she thinks she might miss out on something!).
We went away last week and since we've been back the nights have been like this: Fri: last feed at 9.00 woke for feeds at 2.20 and 5.15
Sat : last feed at 9.20 woke for feeds at 2.30 and 6.00
Sun: last feed at 9.30 woke for feeds at 2.10 and 5.40
Mon: last feed at 9.00 woke at 1.45 put dummy in the woke for feed at 4.30
Tues: last feed at 9.00. Woke at 5.25 for feed.
Before we went away I don't think we ever had more than 2 nights in a row that were the same!
She generally poos at least once a day, usually after I've just put a new nappy on! She did do the arching thing you described a couple of weeks ago and I got a bit upset because she wouldn't feed however many positions I tried and eventually I gave her a bottle of EBM whilst she was sat in her bouncy chair. She seems to have been better lately though.

Very similar then! I do wonder how tonight will go. She fed at 6:30, asleep at 7:30.

Will see how she does. She's does two poo's today so who knows!

My DS was unbearable at 16wks, also very fidgety on the boob and even frequently refusing feeds. He also started waking up more frequently in the nights at that age, also sticking hands or fists into his mouth. The fidgetyness and refusals made me unable to predict when he'd be ready for his next feed so I was about to bash my head through the wall!

He's now 20wks and has settled down. I read that at 16wks they reach many milestones and that it's quite common for them to be fidgety feeders and to wreck all their previous habits. It was a huge adjustment period for us.

If your little one is gaining weight well, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. As long as you're producing milk, its quality is fine.

What I did was start scaling back feeds. I had been on feeds every 3 hours and he just wasn't interested so I pushed to every four. I also realised that when I fed him at a 4am-ish wakeup, he'd be a squirmy caterpillar at his 7am feed and ultimately take very little, which resulted in him snacking all day as I kept trying to feed him thinking "well he MUST be hungry he barely had anything at the last feed".

It seemed to work, he became much calmer and still during feeds and ate with gusto(!)... A few times it was clear that 4 hours was a bit too long so I'd do 3.5. Also in the night I attempted not to feed him at 4am but to soothe him and it worked! He'd go back to sleep and feed really well in the morning. (not only that but... After a few nights of not feeding him at 4 he stopped waking up at that time!!!)

Good luck and don't worry, the little creatures won't let themselves be malnourished. I realise it's easier said than done as I was going ballistic last month but once I tried the above it all seemed to fall into place.

Had similar experience here ( now 20 wks) sounds like 4 month sleep regression - all seemed to go a tad haywire here soon as we hit 16 wks. Feeds / sleep /we're mood were all over the shop for a good couple of weeks

"normal" behaviour returned at about 19 weeks lots of luck
