Hypertension and breast feeding

Hi, I am really keen to hear from anyone who suffers from hypertension. Mine was well controlled in pregnancy, but I'm now told that I can't use the same medicine I used in pregnancy. The new meds are not great and it's taking forever for my bp to go back to normal. I am now on nifedipine and atenolol....is this really ok in breast feeding? It just doesnt appear to be doing the job fast enough....I'd be grateful to hear from others on their experiences...

Have a look here on the BfN website section on drugs in breastmilk. There's also a number for the drugs helpline where you can speak to someone and discuss your particular situation.

Hello, I've been on medication for high blood pressure since I was 24 (now 35). I've been breast feeding my daughter for 21 months and have been on labetalol during pregnancy and breast feeding which has been fine for us both. I hope you find a medication that works for you. xx

I was on labetalol too for pg induced hypertension, obv had to continue meds for a good few months following birth.
