I need to stop breastfeeding DD so that I can re-start my medication for rheumatoid arthritis.
Over the past six weeks or so we've been trying her with a bottle every few days, but she's pretty much always refused it whether they've contained EBM or formula. I've tried her when she's hungry, not so hungry, tried different brands or formula and two different types of bottle. I've tried not to bf her straight away after she's refused, but sometimes she's got so distressed that a bf is the only thing that will calm her down. It's also been hard to do this with 6yo DD1 on school holidays.
I saw the hv yesterday and she said I need to take a tough love approach and go cold turkey with the bf. Really not sure about this, but she assures me that though it will be difficult, DD2 will not let herself starve and will take the formula when she gets hungry enough.
Decided to give it a go today s DD1 is having a sleepover tonight. Not going well so far. BF this morning at 7am, since then DD has reluctantly had 3oz of milk (although a fair bit of that has been dribbled out). She keeps rooting for my boob and has just cried herself to sleep.
Please can anyone reassure me or suggest an alternative approach that works. Feeling sad about ending BF but my girls need me to be mobile and not grumpy due to pain.
