Which teat to try for EBF 5 month old's first bottle?

Hello

DD is 5 months old and has been exclusively breast fed up to now. She has been offered a bottle twice and refused it, although she probably wasn't actually hungry on those occasions (both being evenings I had dared to go out after feeding her, when my mum/her dad respectively were having trouble settling her and tried a bottle in desperation).

I want to start getting her used to a bottle and I also want to try introducing a formula dreamfeed just in case it helps with her sleeping at night - so the plan is to start trying to give her a bottle of formula at 10/10.30pm. The sleeping part didn't work at all with my now 2 year old DS but I think that's how we got him to take a bottle.

I have Tommee Tippee bottles and have bought new teats in size 1 (slow flow), size 2 (medium flow) and variflow. Any suggestions on which to try first?

She has always been a very quick and efficient feeder (if very easily distracted) so I thought she must be getting a pretty quick flow out of me. But I am told that when she has previously been offered a bottle with the size 2 teat, she seemed pretty shocked by the speed of the flow. So I thought I would probably try the slow flow first unless the variflow are likely to be better. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know much about variable flow treats. But it's generally recommended that breast feed babies just use size one, a the flow from a bottle is much faster then the breast.

I never had any success with tommee tippee teats for either of my ebf DDs. They are rigid plastic and my DDs just didn't get them at all. in the end the only type of teat they accepted were those really cheap old fashioned brown latex teats - 6 for £1 in my local pound shop! - and I think it's because they are softer and more like an actual nipple.

also I found the hole had to be quite big and drippy otherwise they just wouldn't get it.

Thank you both for replying. In the end I tried the size one and she guzzled down about 90ml. And then woke up 3 hours later and demanded another feed. So - a mixed success!
