7-week-old sleeping 10-11 hours at night - should I wake her?

My 7-week-old has been sleeping consistently through the night for 2 weeks and in recent days it's been between 10 and 11 hours. However, I've been getting mixed advice about whether this is healthy for such a small baby. Some people think I'm the luckiest mum in the world and I should enjoy it; others are saying that it could affect her weight gain or even lead to her becoming dehydrated and I should wake her every 3-4 hours. What do people think? Should I be waking her and feeding her?

Other things affecting my thinking are that she sleeps so badly during the day (she has 3 or 4 naps of usually 15mins or occasionally 30mins) that I'm reluctant to wake her in the night if I don't need to as it's the only decent rest she gets. But could the lack of feeding at night be a reason for her not settling during the day? ie. perhaps she won't settle during day because she needs to feed more to make up for the lack at night? I've also noticed in the past week that my milk production is slowing down...could this be because she's not feeding in the night?

She's a good sized baby (weighed 8lb 13oz at birth) and has been putting weight on steadily since then. So far I have no concerns there.

Would appreciate opinions/advice! Thanks!

My dd was exactly like yours - she flatly refused to take proper naps through the day, but slept soundly through the night from an early age. She is now a very healthy nine year old, neither under or overweight.

As long as she is feeding well during the day and continuing to put weight on, then don't worry and enjoy it. I hate to say it, but it may not last long anyway, once she starts teething or enters a new growth spurt she may well wake again.

She sounds fine. She is gaining weight.

My DS started sleeping through the night at five weeks, 12 hours. I wasn't aware that it was a problem. (He is 14 now, so info does chamge). When he had growth spurt at 13 weeks he did start to wake in the night for milk.

I would not worry if she is happy and thriving. You are getting sleep. It may all change..

Each child is different. My friend's baby is exactly like yours and mine had long naps during the day and slept like a log until eight months sob. He's a happy healthy two year old. I'm very much of the opinion of being led by your own child. My sister used to keep her kids entertained until a suitable bedtime but my ds goes nuts if you try that on him.

Don't worry you are doing a grand job!
