10 month old big baby (98th centile) and milk....

I can't be bothered to ask my hv as I know she has no idea so can anyone help... my 10 month old ds is 26 lbs - he's tall as well as rather erm... chubby. He takes 3 x 6 oz bottles a day (morning, mid afternoon and bedtime) and three meals a day plus some fruit or a biscuit in the morning as a snack. He is crawling well now and starting to pull up to his feet... but he is heavy and I wonder if I should be thinking of reducing his milk intake or even going on to cow's milk already... he was 8 lbs at birth and has been on the 91st or above centile from about 8 weeks old.... my first dc (a girl) has always been on the 21st centile and was a big milk refuser so this is a bit new to me! Any advice appreciated... thanks!

20oz is recommended up to 1 year so 3 x 6oz is fine. My ds was over 20lbs at 5½ months old and according to his wee book was 25lb 13oz at 10 months. I was never advised to cut his food or milk.

I would keep doing what you are already as he doesnt sound like he is taking too much - he will slim down (or his weight gain will slow down) once he is on his feet and moving about a bit more.

Cows milk isnt recommended as a main drink until the age of 1 year so I would stick with formula until then

I know how u feel My 8.5mo is probably 24lbs now too scared to get him weighed the last couple of months but last time he was on 98th centile. He was born on 91st and when last weighed was 91st for length so I'm happy he's in proportion and just a big lad.

He still has breakfast 7oz, 2 x 4oz in day and 7oz bed whenever I try to cut his bottles he's mega grumpy so going to have to keep them up a bit longer. He already eats 3 meals a day and is a human dustbin.

I know how you feel - having DS is like having a dog...! DS also measures long - 91st for height. Perhaps we should start a rugby team! I wonder if it's just boys!!

Figgy and I are on the same thread and both have big boys- DS was always on 91st centile for length, and is now on it for weight. He's about 23lbs now, and hurts my back something chronic!

Cows' milk is fine in things, but isn't advised as a drink until a year I think. Tbh your DS's intake sounds fine, they tend to let you know when they want more or object to less- my DS still has two bfs, three bottles of 150ml, and three meals.
