DD2 is 14 month and I am away. Do I HAVE to pump?

I am away for 7 days in total. I have been pumping in the first few days but a lot of effort for very little results. I am totally exhausted with work and jetlag. Should I really pump if I want to pick-up where I left it or it will it just be fine when I come back?

A friend of mine had to go into hospital for an operation and left her 14 month old at home for about 5 or 6 days. Pretty sure didn't pump, apart from hand expressing so she was more comfortable. Her DS just picked up where he left off with no problem so it can be fine Smile

No, I wouldn't. Maybe a quick hand express in the shower.

How much does your DD feed when you are around?

Edma · 05/09/2012 16:32

She has a BF first thing in the morning, a few quick ones during the day when she's not with the nanny, another big drink at 5 when i pick her up and a feed last thing at night.
Thank you, these make me feel better!

Hand expressing once our twice a day should be enough. more for your comfort then anything. supply at this age is northerly quit robust.

chipmonkey · 05/09/2012 17:55

Mig, Southerly girls can have quite a robust supply as well!Grin

Are you not uncomfortable? I become engorged after 24 hours away from my 23 month old! I have to pump.

Edma · 06/09/2012 12:45

No, I am not engorged at all. Can't wait to come home now. 2 sleeps...

Just keep an eye on if you get full. If you do, then express. Your toddler will soon sort out your supply again when you get home. Boobs are v flexible by this stage Grin.

I always pumped when I went away when the boys were older but never got very much. I think I would have been engorged if I didn't though
