Should I give my 10 week old bf baby a dummy?

I just fed him for 45 mins and put him on a mat. He played for 15mins batting some toys and then turned onto his side, shoved his knuckles in his mouth and sucked himself to sleep within 3 minutes without so signal to me that he should be fed. His sucking was also so quiet I didn't notice until he was almost completely asleep.

My ds is 6 and still sucks his thumb. Would introducing a dummy prevent this in my 10 week old?

My 6 and 4 year olds both suck their thumbs, my plan was to get my new DS to have a dummy so he wouldn't such his thumb but he has other plans! Not interested in a dummy at all but sucks his 2 middle fingers!

I probably should have picked him up and put him to the boob, but with 2 other young children in the summer holidays I just didn't notice.

good luck! 11 week old DD spits them out in utter disgust when we try one on her. she doesn't suck her thumb much though, much preferring the boob. definitely worth a try, but don't be surprised if he ignores it :)

(oh, and try different brands, my DS would only entertain the idea of a dummy if we used MAM ones - friend's DD would only use Avent)

We just gave our 6 week old the dummy and she is loving it. Dd2 spat hers out. Depends if bab is gurney and unsettled. Try and avoid if u can as ds1 took till 2.5 yrs to get rid!
