Return of periods means decreased supply??

My son is 5.5 months ols and is exclusively breastfed. I started my regular periods 2 months back. Does this mean my milk supply may have gone down? Incidentally the return of my periods coincides with the time i stopped expressing. I was expressing since the second week to keep my supply up. Then u stopped around 3 months. My son is a very active baby but has been a thin baby and slow gainer since the very beginning. Even when i was expressing. He seems to be content after feeds and easily manages 3-4 hours between feeds, sometimes more. At nights, he wakes up after 4.5-5 hrs. Some things suggest i should not worry about my milk supply, but then why have my periods returned already? I have heard ppl not having periods for almost 8-9 months.

in my experience my periods retuned when feeds spaced out to over 5 hours

there was no effect on my supply as I remember

DD1 I went 11 months without a period, but then she fed every 3 hours right up to that point

DD2 my period came back after 4 months I was gutted but she was a much better sleeper

I started my periods when DD was around 8 weeks old and she fed CONSTANTLY! I think I was one of the unlucky ones! Grin

my periods came back at about 6 months (shortly after DD started on solids) BUT she was still bf'ing every 2 or 3 hours round the clock as well (until she was about a year old)...

I also got pregnant when she was 7 months...so BE CAREFUL Grin

I thinking is likely that your supply has settled down at 5 months, and combined with stopping expressing, you may feel less full. That should t mean any problem with your supply though.

With regard to the return of periods, bf can delay their return, but some mothers get them back straight away, while some don't get one for as long as they're feeding. Everybody is different :)

Well...thanks for sharing u guys Smile
I do understand that every one is different and there is no right answer in such cases, but then listening to others experience does help...even if its psychological Grin
