My lovely DS1 is ebf and is growing great (91st centile). However I have a couple of questions:
He has started to feed less and for shorter amounts of time, is this normal? He still does millions of wet nappies and an enormous dirty one every day/every other day. I get the feeling he is getting distracted when I feed when we're out and about so he's taking less.
He still wakes up at least 3 times a night between 7-7 for a feed. The first sleep is always the longest, up to 6 hours and then he wakes around every 2-3 hours after that. Is this normal? I seem to have a million friends who have babies who are sleeping through. The later feeds he only feeds for 10 mins or so and then is back to sleep. Should I be trying to cut these out? Basically I have no idea what I'm doing but am worried he should be sleeping longer/better at night.
thank you for any words of wisdom!

Hi. You could be me! My baby is 4.5 months old and is also 91st centile and ebf! What you describe is exactly where we are now! Even down to the 6hour sleep stretch first then 2 to 3 hours afterwards. Wish it was the other way round lol! Nothing to add really apart from you sound exactly in same position as me and I think were pretty normal. For what its worth none of our baby friends sleep any better really. I think only getting up 2 to 3 times a night is good going really!x

My ebf 4.5mo doesn't sleep anything like as well as yours! NWakes every 2-3 hrs for a feed, occasionally goes up to 4-5hrs at start of night but this is v rare for him. 'Sleeping through' in first year only means a five-hour stretch iirc.

My DS is 4 months old and does pretty similar - generally 3 feeds in the 12 hours overnight, 2 on a good night. The first sleep will be the longest followed by a full feed. After that it is often just a case of feeding back to sleep. We are trying to resettle him without feeding if it has been less than 3 hours but if it doesn't work quickly then I just feed him anyway.

my 4mo DS2 is 'only' 75th centile but about the same. his first sleep is only a few hours though Envy

DS is nearly 4 months and feeds at 7 pm, 11 pm and 4.30 am. WRT what your friends tell you about their babies I read this in the Sunday Times this weekend:

"A fifth of parents lie about their baby sleeping through the night, according to a survey by Netmums. In reality, only 26% of babies sleep through by 12 weeks old, but parenting experts have led us to believe that broken nights are a failure. Mothers said they pretend their child is sleeping through for fear of looking like a ?bad parent?. Enforcing a bedtime routine is the most popular approach to getting children to sleep, while 37% used controlled crying. Above all, don?t be afraid to ask for help ? almost half of the parents quizzed suffered from sleep deprivation, so you?re not alone."

My DS is exactly as you describe & is 5 months. Lots of my friends LO are the same too, so perfectly normal Smile
