Green poo in bf baby

Dd2 is bf I have just introduced 1 bottle a day.

Before she did 1 humungous yellow poo a week. Now she is little and often, much more bitty and very wet sometimes, I figured this was the ff having an affect but today it has gone green.

I heard green was bad??? Is it the ff could she just now be taking foremilk off me being lazy? Or could she be allergic to the ff? Ive so just been given antibiotics for a chest infection, they make me feel sick could it Br going through the milk to her should I stop taking them?

Or am I wrong and fretting over nothing?

Antibiotics could be getting through to baby. Did you tell the person who prescribed them that you are still breast feeding?

Softlysoftly · 19/08/2012 08:31

Hiya I did they said they were fine but there was a 20% chance I would be allergic as they are in the penicillin family which I am allergic to.

The NHS website then said they weren't suitable for bf so I asked two different pharmacists who both say they are Confused

How old is she?

When I was prescribed antibiotics when DS was 4 weeks old I was warned they could upset his tummy. He was colicky at the time anyway and already had green poo so can't really say if they made him worse. He suffered with it a couple of times but I think it was more of a fore milk/hind milk thing for me as it cleared up when I changed how I was feeding him.
I know there can be other causes too though.

Most abs are fine but can make green poo more likely, there is no problem with some green poo especially if your baby is well.

Check bfn website for up to date info on antibiotics and bf.

Without ever having antibiotics my DS also had green poo, green frothy poo to be precise. The GP said that this was quite normal, it's a baby's bowels getting used to working. We had a variety of colours, all normal. Speak to your GP but don't be too concerned.

She's 11wks achillea.

I'll try and chill seeing sil this aft who's a gp so will ask her thanks all.

Do see a GP, it could be an indication of severe nutrition deficit.

My DD was combination fed but we had some spectacular green poo when we introduced formula and later, when we started first foods (apple puree).

Our GP said that it was baby's tummy getting used to the different substances.

If baby is fine apart from the green poo then don't worry (yeah I know, easier said than done!) Smile

achillea · 20/08/2012 08:54

Sorry blondie, do worry. Take her to the GP please OP.

blondieminx · 23/08/2012 07:50

softlysoftly how is your baby? What did your SIL say?

SoupDragon · 23/08/2012 08:13

Sometimes baby poo is green. It just is.
