Best way to get periods back?

I can't believe I want my periods back! We're hoping to try for baby no 2 in the not too distant future and I'd like to be back on track fertility wise. However, I'm reluctant to give up breastfeeding my DS who is 7 months just yet. He still feeds 5 or 6 times a day. I express at 22:00 for his 7pm feed and he also feeds once in the night about 4am. Am I right in thinking that if I can drop the night feed it might return? What's the best way to drop the night feed?

A gradual overall reduction due to weaning onto solids may help but there are no guarantees that dropping the night feed would.

Maybe you could do it by gradually reducing the amount at night, like 5 mins less every few days, and then make up for it at the 7pm feed. That's what I did to drop my dreamfeed. Then once its reduced to almost nothing just drop it. Though if he's in the habit of waking you might need to do something like give him a dummy or water or something to help him get used to sleeping thru again.

They do say that not feeding in the night helps your periods return as Bfing is good contraception if feeding no longer than 4 hrs during the day and 6hrs at night

My periods came back exactly 4 weeks to the day after I went from 4 feeds a day to 3. She was 8 months then and was sleeping through the night and on 3 full meals a day. The feed I dropped was the mid afternoon one.
HTH.

I top up at 8.30pm, dreamfeed topup at midnight and occasionally at 3pm in the afternoon,so's he'll go for a reasonable nap, still no periods here.........

Oh, and I was thinking of giving up bfing at 6 mths in order to ttc, but then it struck me - what if I gave up bfing (I really wouldlike to do it for a year) and then didn't get pg - I would kick myself! So you might want to bear that in mind when thinking about giving up or not.

beartime - you up too? i can't sleep

beartime · 13/03/2006 04:42

yes - Caleb woke up which woke me up, now he's gone back to sleep but I turned the heating on for 15 mins while I play on MN so hopefully he'll go back to sleep!

oh don't know if I want to do that!

suzi, I just found this page with links to loads of articles all about bfing and fertility: \link{http://www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/fertility.html\here} - you have to scroll down to the bottom.

Thanks beartime. Very useful. I think I'll try dropping the last thing at night expressing session first...
