2 week old tongue tie affecting breastfeeding

Had to let my nipples heal & express for 5.5days until they had healed & I got to a breast feeding group.

I saw a counsellor & got my latch sorted on my right but the skin is starting to graze again in the same place so I'm convinced its the tongue tie causing the problem.

Anyone had experience of getting tongue tie cut & what age it can be done as she is now 16days old. I'm back on Monday to the group & will see the counsellor again. :-(

I would insist they did it - had ours cut at 3 days and made a tremendous difference. I had to make a big fuss before I finally got to see the Breastfeeding expert in the midwifery unit who agreed it was essential.

In addition to poor feeding, it can also lead to speech impediments (apparently...)

It took 2 seconds to cut

DS had his tongue tie cut at 10 weeks, and he was the oldest of the group going through the same procedure that day. As timefor says, it's a matter of seconds: they ask you to go into another room while it's being done, then they bring you your baby immediately so that you can feed him. I think the earlier it is done the better. It definitely makes a difference, but don't expect miracles (I did, and was disappointed, though managed to exclusively bf my DS until he was 6 months, which I probably couldn't have done without the cut). Good luck for Monday.
