Breastfeeding and the Contraceptive Implant (Nexplanon)

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting the Contraceptive Implant (Nexplanon) put in. We're not planning to have any more children but my oh has not quite got his head around getting the snip yet. I expect (all being well) to have it in for a year or two. I'm still feeding our 10 mth old and plan on continuing to do so for as long as possible. I know that the implant isn't meant to have any impact on breastfeeding, but just wanted to check this out with anyone who's actually used it. If you have had the implant in while bf, has it had any effect at all?
Thanks,

I've got the Implanon implant, got it when DS2 was 4 months and bf him till he was 10 months, no problems. Not sure about Nexplanon, might well be the same thing under a different name possibly?

Thanks. Yes, think it is pretty much the same thing. Main difference seems to be that this one has in barium so shows up on x-rays if it gets lost!

I had it and fed ds until 21 months with no issues.

Gets lost???

Paulacarl · 11/08/2012 09:50

I know that sounds bizarre but apparently it can sometimes move from your arm and they use an x-ray to find it.

I had the Implanon after 2 of my babies with no problems whatsoever and Nexplanon when DD was 8 weeks old, she is 12 months now and we are still feeding. DS was 2 1/2 but that was with the Implanon.

I have a 9 year age gap between DS2 and DS3 and I used the Implant for the whole of this time + no periods Grin

Moves from your arm and goes on holiday round your body??? So glad mine is very findable (checking my arm now).

I'll second no periods, brilliant side effect!

Slightly off topic but I've got nexplanon in and still bf. I'm having it taken out next wk thou.
Hav none of u not had side effects??
Lack of sex drive, moodiness, headaches??? Xx

I did, I wouldn't say it entirely agreed with me. But it was ok for the most part. I probably will get it again more because I don't have to remember to take a pill (and with two under three, my brain will have gone to pot anyway).
