Gah! Thought I'd got away with it - mastitis at 13m

I've been so lucky to not have any problems breastfeeding apart from a couple of plugged ducts. Until now. I think because of teeth DS's latch has gone to pot and I got a crack in my nipple, which has now led to mastitis. I feel really bleurgh Sad. Have been to the docs and got antibiotics, but anyone got any top tips for feeling better? My boob is very sore, lying down to feed (he still feeds in the night and we cosleep) is so so painful! I've been taking paracetemol too.

Feeling sorry for myself!! Sad

You poor thing. Mastitis is far far worse than the worst flu (ime).

I escaped with dd but had it three times with ds. I found that the antibios worked really quickly. Lovely doctor game me the 500mg dose rather than 250mg as she'd had Mastitis and knew how bad it was.

Em, no top tips. Just the usual - feed lots from the bad side, lots of fluids for you. Make sure you take it easy. Ibrufen helps to reduce swelling I think.

Feed so DS's lower jaw is pointing towards the sore area. Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you ladies. I'm on the 500mg too, which is probably just as well cos I seem to have it both sides now Sad
