Well I can't think of any other reason for his painful habit!
At the end of a feed he will clamp down on my poor nipple and then pull his head back, stretching said nip with him. He sometimes does it several times during a feed too. Why is he doing this and how do I get him to stop?

Glad its not just my baby! He is only 17 days old though, is that to young to do the stop start thing?

Perhaps he wants it to go 'Twwwwaannnnng' like in cartoons when he lets it go.

My DS does this. He also presses his face so far into my boob that he almost disappears. I can't advise, only sympathise x

Ha ha, mine did that for the first few weeks, hurts doesn't it?! I think it was the anticipation that was worse than the actual pain though.
DD stopped doing it after a few weeks.

Rachog · 02/08/2012 09:12

Haha at twang! That is the perfect sound effect.
Maybe non of our babies like us? Just one of the many joys of breastfeeding it seems, I hope he gets bored of it soon.

Could you have a good let down or over supply so he is trying to 'stop' the milk?

I can't link to the link as on my phone but check out www.kellymom.com on forceful let down.

My dd used to do this too and it was because my milk was coming out to fast for her. I found lying down to feed helped and leaning back so gravity took a bit of the pressure off.

Congrats on DS Wink

Rachog · 02/08/2012 09:24

Godisadj, I do seem to have a fast let down, especially on the left, if ds comes off after the initial latch milk squirts everywhere! I hadn't connected the two. I will have a look on Kellymom now, thanks!

Mine does that too! The good news is its stopped hurting now.

I'd come on here all ready to tell you to discuss PND with your HV/GP...

Rachog · 02/08/2012 12:25

Mrshoarder, oops, slightly misleading title, I was being tounge in cheek, I didn't think of pnd!

Glad to hear it doesn't hurt you anymore, maybe its part of the toughening up that the midwife keeps telling me will happen.
