When will my EBF baby poo?

dd is almost 12 weeks old and hasn't had a poo since Tuesday. Her bowel movements do seem to have slowed down over the past 2 weeks only going once every other day. she is still farting but just no poops.

She is perfectly content between feeds, sleeping as normal and does not seem to be in pain.

Is this normal? And when should I seek medical advice?

Thanks

Rubbish are you still getting plenty of wet nappies? If so, then it is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. EBF babies can go anything from every feed (my DS) to once every 2 weeks (my DD). Both are normal and the recommendation is to only seek advice once it is past 2 weeks, as long as DD isn't in pain obviously.

Have you tried the usual like no nappy time and baby massage?

Hi jilted, thank you for your message. Yes, lots (6-8) of wet nappies a day and we have no nappy time every morning whilst I have a shower. I have tried a bit of baby massage but think I need to dedicate some more time to it.

Just remembered that Dd has next set of jabs on thurs with health visitor so I can raise it then if she still hasn't been.

Who knew you could worry so much about poo!

my LO only goes maybe once every 6 days or so. Don't panic, some babies only go every 14 days!

Normal. My ds is 15 weeks old and the same. I was told by the HV that with breast milk there's so little waste that they wouldn't be worried with a gap of more than a week even between poos Shock When he does go though, you really can't miss it, it's a bit of an event Hmm

Thanks all for messages. Will have to make sure we have full outfit changes if we go anywhere in next couple of days - sounds like there might be a poo explosion looming!

Mine famously went three weeks, yes, 21 days!

I will see if I can find the thread....

Thanks nap-really helpful. So reassuring to know we all have the same worries! x

I remember this well....and the resulting explosion when I unfortunately had dd1's nappy off and her poo stream hit the opposite wall...about 4/5 feet!!!

My DS was another non pooer, he would do it weekly on a Monday, so just knew not to go far from the house that day Smile when it came however it was all hands to the deck. I found it easier to lie him on an incontinence pad until he was finished, then clean him up!

Just wanted to share in my delight at a massive poo!! :)

Yay!

My little one poos every four days it seems and I discovered the word Poonami on MN, which describes it quite well :o

Glad the poo arrived though. :)

bailey that's similar to what I do - when he's due one, or having some naked bum time, I lay LO on an old towel.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 22/07/2012 14:09

Glad it's happened Smile. Grin at Poonami.
