When does the bloody nightmarish cluster feeding phase end?!

Fed up of all evening, every evening, being full of scream-feed-scream-claw at my chest-scream-calm-scream-feed!!
DS is 8 weeks, this has been happening since he was born, from about 6pm till 10ish.
Have a daughter as well and I can't remember how long it lasted with her, she was definitely less screamy though. Maybe I've blocked it from my mind.
Can anyone comfort me?

With my DD1 she stopped cluster feeding at 9 weeks, DD2 was closer to 12. Sorry not to be more precise.

I think it was about 12 weeks with my DD, then she'd do it periodically. Does he reward your hard slog with a nice block of sleep after all that feeding? That was what kept me going, it promised at least a 4hr block of sleep and once, at the most, a 13hr block of sleep. 13hrs asleep, pah! Now she doesn't go 3hrs without waking.

Around 12-13 weeks IME

It does feel endless at the time tho

littlemimosa · 22/07/2012 04:53

Could he be over-tired? I know a lot of people say it's normal but ime it's them being so tired they don't know what to do with themselves at the end of a day full of new sights, sounds etc. We realised this with dc1 and started putting her to bed, the cluster feeding stopped for good. Dc2 has been going to bed at 7/8 pm since 1 week old, no cluster feeds necessary! Both are bf babies btw. Just a thought and hats off to you, it's stressful.

littlemimosa · 22/07/2012 04:58

Meant to add they don't/didnt sleep all night then. Just a good 3-4 hour chunk before next feed. Such a treat and a good chance to rest before being up at 3am! Hope this helps.

Tanyaaah · 23/07/2012 16:58

Just had 2 nights of 8.30 bedtime, sleeping till 3-4ish!

Excellent! What did you do differently, if anything?
