Quick question about tap water for 6 month old.

Now that dd2 is 6 months old I gather I can give her tap water to drink rather than cooled boiled. What I don't know is, sometimes I make up a bottle using say, 4oz boiling water, 7 scoops formula, then shake, then add 3oz cooled water to get to correct temp. Can I use water from the tap to cool or does it still have to be boiled?

At the nursery I work at the guidelines are to use cooled boiled water for drinks and formula until they are a year old.

I give filtered tap water now for drinks but still use cooled boiled water for making up formula as the water still needs to be warm to kill the bacteria in the powder.

Not sure how else you would have the water hot enough to make the bottles otherwise

Personally if I were going to keep the bottle in the fridge for a while, I'd use cooled boiled water and be more tempted to use tap water if going to use it straight away.

Formula milk, made from powder, MUST always be made with water at least 70 degrees. There is potentially very harmful bacteria in the powder that must be killed by the heat of the water.

See here

As far as drinking water goes from 6 months she can have it straight from the tap.

To cool a feed quickly you run it under cold water.

If you are giving her the bottle straight away then I guess you could just add the last 3oz of water straight from the tap. I think I would use cooled boiled water though if the bottle was going to be stored for any length of time.
