Have just found out I am pregnant. Am still feeding ds1 (5 months) myself and wish to carry on feeding him until he is one. Are there any other mums out there that are feeding whilst pregnant???

Does this mean I get to eat more!!!!

I'm not pregnant so don't have personal experience but is there a La Leche League group in your local area you could go along to? I started going to a monthly group with ds2 as I was struggling with bf and have really enjoyed the group. They are really supportive of bf through pregnancy and 'tandem nursing' (nursing toddler & baby) and have loads of books, leaflets etc.

Sure you can eat more, you're feeding yourself + 2 now! Good luck! Rosiedx

Got pregnant when my DD was 6 months and carried on BF'ing until she was 10 months when she was getting heavy (and also about to start nursery) and the bump was beginning to get in the way. She pretty much self weaned though and apparently this is not uncommon as the milk changes sometimes.

As for eating what you want... I did!

I fell pregnant with ds2 when ds1 was 13 months old. I breastfed throughout my pregnancy (although it became a bit difficult towards the end due to lack of space!). I continued to tandem feed until ds1 was 3. DS2 is now 2 and a bit and I'll be giving up soonish!

The NCT have a breastfeeding line which may be able to offer you support and information:

hi mower, congratulations on your pregnancy! i am sure you'll find that there more pregnant mums that are still breastfeeding on mumsnet! i did, and am now tandem-feeding my 2 ds-s (ds1 26 months and ds2 2 months). are you planning to tandemfeed as well? i am asking since you write you want to feed your 5 month old until he's one (this will be late in your pregnancy, assuming you just found out you're pregnant, so about 1 month into it?). you may find some trouble weaning him that late, though you may also find that he self-weans because of the change in milk.
if you have nothing against tandemfeeding, you could obviously go with the flow, and not try to wean your ds1, but see if he self-weans, and if not tandemfeed.
personally, i find loads of advantages in tandemfeeding: my ds1 has yet to show any sign of jealousy, he adores his little brother. breastfeeding ds2 took of from day 1, because there was loads of milk there already, and he is gaining weight rapidly. i lost my pregnancy weight within 10 weeks of giving birth (and i did put on 20kg!). ofcourse there are also some disadvantages: sometimes -especially if i'm v.tired- i find it a bit much to deal with two drinkers at the same time. i guess you might have more trouble with this than I have, as your ds1 will be a lot younger when his brother/sister is born (i can tell ds1 "it's enough now" and he'll happily go and read a book/play).
anyway, re. your eating question. i never found that i had an increased appetite, until i was way into the last part of the pregnancy. all those kilos i put on in the last two months... Shock.
good luck with your pregnancy!

I became pregnant with DD2 when DD1 was 9 months, I continued feeding DD1 up until she was about a year and I believe she self weaned as she stopped asking for milk. In a way I was glad as I was at the feeling rotten stage and often it was hard to feed when I felt like being sick.

I'm feeding DD2 now she is 4 weeks and DD1 is fine with it, she even pulls my top up for DD2 to have a feed. She has had a lick of my nipple but that was it (I didn't push her away) but hse will cuddle up to my other boob when I'm feeding DD2 and it is lovely.

hi there - congratulations on your pregnancy!
I bf all through my pregnancy with dd2. the milk stopped for a little while (dd1 perservered though...) and after that colostrum came in. it was fine, I had no problems at all
Yes you need to eat more, also lots of lie ins and long baths Wink
and I am tandem feeding now, if you would like to know about that?
let meknow if you want to know more
good luck

I am bf my dd who's 19 months and i'll be 20 weeks pg on Sunday. I'm probably going to tandemfeed dd and new baby.Although i wish dd would give up now.Sad My nipples are really sore and sensitive and feeding is a nightmare. When (and if) that goes i will be fine but the agony is getting to me.Dd does still get up thru the night too so may be hard to cope with once baby arrives,i'm sure i'll be posting for help and advice about that when it happens.Grin

fastasleep · 01/03/2006 15:51

I've made enough milk for two accidentally, which is sort of vaguely similar, by expressing from the word go, and really I just have to say yes you do have to eat loads no matter what anyone else says! I started to waste away Shock! So stuff your face with as much healthy food as you can stomach!

WellieMum · 02/03/2006 06:18

Hi Mower, congratulations!

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and dd is 17 months old. She still has 1-2 feeds per day. It's not been a problem except that as agalch as found too, I'm really tender.

Good luck and keep eating!

Just wanted to tell someone about my dream last night. I am in very early stages of pregnancy.

Last night I dream I was at a party and I was feeding a new baby (guessing this was my baby) then all of a sudden he stopped feeding and my milk spurted out all over people at the party and I ran out.

I woke up this morning to find my boobs had leeked quite a big patch on my bed, so must have happened when I was having that dream!!!

i breastfeed my ds when i fell pregnant when he was 9 months old but he self weaned after a couple of months anyway and it was as though he could sense the change as he would feed then look at me as though to say heh whats going on here and stop so he slowly weaned himself and it got that he was only having a quick feed at night but he obviously didnt like the taste as he would keep stopping and then refuse to feed
