Painful breasts now that I've finished BFing

My DD is 9mo and last week I finished BFing her. I stepped down the feeds gradually but although my breasts feel soft and there's no lumps, they are sore when anything touches them. The closest I cam describe is that they feel bruised on the sides.

Is this normal? Maybe hormonal? Or do I need to see a GP before the weekend?

Sounds like a trip to the GP would be in order. How quickly did you step down the feeds?

I stepped it down over about 10 days, dropping a feed every few days.

It's a little fast & I think it would be worth speaking to a doctor to rule out mastitis.

Kellymom reccomends dropping a feed a week

Your body really needs time to slow milk production.

Thanks Loony I'll give them a call tomorrow morning. I didn't intend to finish that quickly but i suspect my supply was marginal anyway as once I was down to a couple of feeds a day my DD was crying and pulling off and becoming really frustrated, and i struggled to get feeding established when she was first born - never engorged, never leaked, couldn't pump etc, was a nightmare!

I found that massaging breasts in the shower and letting off a tiny amount of milk helped. Good luck.
