2 week old (combination fed) seems constipated - is there anything we can do?

As the title says really.
He is pooing several times a day but also seems, at times, uncomfortable and straining. Is this normal for combo fed babies (he has about 3 feeds of expressed milk and the rest of formula) and is there anything we, or the GP, can do to help?

Hello,
If he's pooing a few times a day I wonder if it might be wind rather then constipation?
We had trouble with both with our boy and we found changing formula to cow and gate colic and infacol really helped.
Good luck

if his poo is soft/runny and a few times a day, it's probably just his wee digestion settling down. new babies seem to do a lot of squeezing and straining and red faces to get poo out!

my DS2 is 8 weeks old and it seems less effort already.

i think the worry is dry hard poo.

i've not used formula so don't know about that, but I'm sure someone can advise.

I combi feed my 7 mo DTs and alwas have. If he is going regularly and its soft when it arrives then its not constipation. My two would sometimes go once a day or even less frequently (record was 4 days) but GP and HV said as long as its soft then its ok.

Don't give him water at that age. Try bicycle movements on his legs which can help him push it out. Also can do a massage, circular movements on his belly (ask HV for colic massage tips as they told me its the same movements)

Thank you!
We came to the conclusion, after some massive bumps, that it was probably wind too even though he had bumped hugely after immediately eating. Will try the cycle actions too and hope that gets more of the wind up too.
