13 months in and very very sore...

Hi there, just hoping for some advice about breastfeeding my 13 month old.

I was fortunate when she was born in that she latched on well and I never had sore nipples at all. Since her first tooth at 6 months I've had the odd bit of soreness but it's quickly passed.

Now at 13 months she has 4 teeth at the top, 2 at the bottom and she is not currently showing any signs of teething. However my nipples are sooooo sore. There seem to be little cracks in them and it is very very painful to feed.

I have no idea why this is happening, I have tried moving her around whilst feeding to stop any teeth rubbing, but it's still excruciating....

Have been using lansinoh, but any suggestions would be very welcome!

No, it has just started in the last few days, possibly a week.

Have your periods started back yet? Any chance that you're pregnant?

Thanks for the replies. No chance that I'm pregnant! Periods started again when she was 10/11 months, and in fact I just started period yesterday.

Could hormones be to blame?

Sorry cross posted with IvanaNap. I put lansinoh on after each feed (4 or 5 times in day, once at night). I do release suction with my finger, no differently to how I have always done.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Can you get sore around your period? It would make sense as I don't think I've changed anything. Is there any way to avoid this? Or something to grin and bear?!

I had to go and buy lansinoh again because I used my old tube up on dry hands after dd was a few months old and I didn't think I'd need it again!

It is expensive but I seem to get through it slowly and I'm hoping nips will get better soon! They are very sore, which surprised me as I'd never had this problem before.

I will dig out the old pump and try your suggestion to give them a rest. Thanks :)

Glad to hear your soreness eased off- there's hope yet! I don't think it's mastitis as I've had that once before, but will look up thrush symptoms.
