Hi, I have a big white spot on one nipple and part of my breast is harder than the other bit. A few days ago it was quite painful and I thought it was blocked but I did some heat/massage/funny feeding positions and it seemed better.

Today it got harder/the white spot got bigger and it's stayed hard (but not painful in the breast - nipples a bit sore from funny feeding possitions!) even after two feeds on that side, some massage, using the pump.

Does this sound like a blocked duct? any advice on what else I can do? Should I just leave it and not owrry as its not painful? Or should I keep trying to avoid mastitis?

Sorry if this is stupid, this is my first time and I just got to pain free breast feeding at 11weeks, very keen not to have any more complications!

I had this a few times while feeding DD but as it was over a year ago I can't remember what it was called. I remember that kellymom.com had some really useful info. Warm compresses and keep feeding from that boob are all I can remember. Hope you find something to help.

You can try combing it

Sounds weird but it can help

Shower , wide tooth comb and literally comb the breast all over in firm strokes

Warm flannels whilst lying in the bath

You can take paracetamol

And yes feed as much as possible

If you think it's a blocked duct, keep going. Mastitis is horrible.

This Kellymom page describes a couple of different things it could be, although I think they're both associated with pain so might be off the mark. Lots more advice on Kellymom if you do decide it's either a milk blister or a blocked duct.

thanks! looked on kellymom - love that site! - and think it might be a milk blister since any pain I do have is around the nipple, so am trying their suggested cures for that.
Bf seems to be one thing after another...roll on six months!
