We were being shown someBenneton ad slides for medial anaysis. One came on of a woman breast feeding a baby and someone says really loudly , "Urggh, thats disgusting. It shouldn't be allowed!." Well..I'm not proud of it but I lost my rag somewhat..

meggmoo · 18/02/2006 23:43

I am so surprised , I mean in this day and age.
Tut, to say it's disgusting really does puzzle me.

monkeytrousers · 18/02/2006 23:47

It was a girl (v young and I think said it to engratiate herself to the lads who she was sitting beside) but..I can't remember exactly, I got a bit hot but think I kept it logical. I remember I said it was a perfectly natural thing to do, to which she replied, 'well so is going to the lav but I don't do it in front of people'...

Meg, I think that was my last point. I tried to ask what it was that was offensive - there is no 'exposure' going on, you cant see the nipple, ("what's that got to do with it?"). Pointed out the double standard that breasts are everywhere in our society, from the high street to bus stops, so isn't it ironic that that they suddenly become obscene when they're used to feed a child. Finished by saying that we live ion a liberal society and people have a right to disagree but not to call something so disgusting that is shouldn't be allowed in public - especially as we'd already established that breasts were everywhere already.

..I didn't want to upset her but I just saw red! To be fair, it isn't something I thought of much until I had a child and breastfed myself.

You did great, mt, I would have lost my rag completely.

Well done MT.

Tatties · 19/02/2006 11:18

I would have lost my rag too! Erm, what are breasts for again??!!

Well done MT.

drosophila · 19/02/2006 11:45

Too right you should have lost it. I don't care if people bottle feed or breast feed but to critise anyone for their choice of feeding is irrational at best.

You know in cultures where breasts are not normally covered up do you think they are seen as sexual things. Off on a tangent I'm afraid.
