Did you set yourself targets to reach?

I've just been thinking about BF. There has been lots of threads and news stories about EBF and to be completely honest the thought of feeding to 2 years plus is terrifying. I didn't BF DS1 and DS2 was mix fed til 14 weeks and then FF. So 2 years sounds scary.

I had originally thought I'd like to EBF until 6 months and then continue from there until one or both of us wanted to stop. But 6 months from EDD is 21st December which also sounds years away. So I was thinking of doing it 2 weekly. Get to 2 weeks then 4 then 6 etc.

I really want to BF this one and now due date is about 4 weeks away I'm worrying.

Did you ever say to yourself I'll get to such and such a date and then set another date to reach?

Thanks Smile

i had the nct chart of my fridge

it was always my aim to make it to the "next" one, (and i really really wanted to make it to 6 months, but in those early months / weeks i never thought i would)

i found the 1st 5&half months really hard, and i made myself make it to the next milestone

at that time something clicked, i realised i LOVED BFing and didnt want to stop... she is 8m now (wont take a bottle / sleeps through), and i hope we make it until 2 years, and even beyond that is she wants to

She has never tasted formula

Yes definitely I did this with all 3 of mine. What really got me through when I was getting fed up was to say to myself 'if I still feel like this in a week's time then I'll make this feed a formula feed'. By the time the week had gone by the baby and I had usually got over what ever was the problem.
I fed my 3 for 6 months each and was pleased with that. I felt that was right for me and didn't feel pressure to feed until 2 years old. Please don't worry just take each day/week at the time. Don't think about the years (but ps my youngest is 2 shortly and I swear it has gone as quick as a flash)

I am lucky in that BFing was relatively straight forward for me and whilst pregnant my goal was a year. I first thought about feeding past a year when DD was about 8wks as I was loving it so much but challenges I've been experiencing since she was 4 months have me now focussing on 6 months instead of the year. I honestly think I will feed to at least a year but I didn't want to stop enjoying BFing so I've changed my focus so I don't start to hate it. Written down that makes no sense but in my baby brain, I know what I mean :)

I originally planned to do six months then a year now DS is 21 months I'm still BF. It was a struggle initially but got really easy after six weeks or so.

fhdl34 like when an overwhelmingly big plate of food puts you off your appetite?

nannyl I'm also doing the nct chart next stage thing - it does make it easier to keep going if I'm only thinking about the next few weeks or so!

I never set any goals. Just knew I would breastfeed. I thought I would stop at about 15 months but life seams to have taken over and we are moving when DS is about 18 months so will keep feeding until after we have settled in new home. I guess we will keep going until a) I'm sick of it, b) DS is sick of it or c) it is effecting our chance of conceiving again.
I don't tend to set goals in life I just have a vague plan of what I would like.
