Hi there, my lovely little boy is 13weeks old and is EBF. He used to spend 20-40 minutes per feed up until last week, now he is at the breast for 15 minutes max, he seems satisfied but I'm just worrying because there is never any realy pattern to BF. In your experiences is this normal for this age? Thanks

I'm a first timer with a 7 week old baby so hopefully someone more experienced will be along but at my breast feeding club the consultant was saying that around 14 weeks babies normally start to feed for less time as they become more efficient at feeding so dont need to take as long.

Totally normal, Pam, though I would not be a proscriptive as feekerry's consultant. Babies can reduce their time at the breast anything from about 7 weeks onwards in my experience - it is just not an issue when everything else appears fine and healthy :)

Thanks tiktok his weight gain seems good, he went from 6lbs 10oz at birth to 11lbs 5oz at 13 weeks, he is alert and hitting all the 'targets' he is also really happy! I'm just a bit tentative because we had a shaky start with BF. Thanks for your advice
