Ive just been put on meds again after my BP has been stable since pregnancy. Dd3 is now 18m and I don't plan to stop bf anytime soon.

My new medication leaflet has the 'do not use if breastfeeding' (as most do) but says the meds go into milk. It's also a diuretic and can be used to suppress milk. When I picked it up the pharmacist warned me to start it when I wasn't busy as the diuretic is strong so I held off until today. Now I'm v reluctant to take it in case of suppressing the milk.

It's bendroflumethiazide btw. Couldn't get the info from Kellymom as I'm
On a mobile and the lactmed app didn't have it.

I took labetalol when bf two of my kids and bendroflura...something or other with my first child, and it said that on my leaflet as well. I never had any problems...in fact i have always had an oversupply of the stuff and seriously could have donated it!

BramblyHedge · 28/04/2012 18:48

That's the one! As an aside i found labetalol much more effective.

HarrietJ0nes · 28/04/2012 18:52

I am usually an oversupplier but am terrible with meds/side affects hence the poor GP trawling for a med for me as I can't have beta blockers or another group ( ones with 'dopa' in?).

Labetalol a beta blocker?

Yes it is. I never had problems with bendroflumazidade when i bf my first child. i would leak terribly! It is difficult to predict though isn't it? sorry i don't have any specific helpful advice to offer.

toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT - search here. Says not a reason to stop bf.

Have a look at the breastfeeding network page. Run by a doc and leaflets on many drugs/conditions.

HarrietJ0nes · 28/04/2012 22:47

Thanks , feeling more confident. I'm sure she will let me know if my milk
slows and I'll get a pummelling

I couldn't find it on lactmed tiktok. Still can't now. Did you find it?

Labetalol made me feel like shite.

Nifedepine was ok tho.

Both are ok when bf.

HarrietJ0nes · 28/04/2012 22:53

Have emailed breastfeeding network.
