Advice re 5 week old bf baby feeding frequency

Was hoping for some reassurance by some more experienced breast feeding mums...thanks in advance!

Baby had previously been feeding approx. every 3 hours, with one 5-6 hour stretch in the night, has been doing this since about 2 weeks old.

The last couple of days this has changed and baby seems more sleepy and is only waking to feed closer to 4 hourly and I am waking him if it gets to 4 hours between feeds except at night...last night he went 8 hours (i panicked when i woke up!) and when I feed him before we go to bed tonight he will have only had 5 feeds since waking today.

He is gainingweight, nappies fine, and docs say he is thriving (we are seeing them regularly for another issue so is being weighed twice weekly) so had not worried previous to this change....is this just as he is getting older, I've read a bit that at 6 weeks things can stretch out? Should i be waking him to feed more regularly or be happy as long as he is gaining weight etc?

Thanks

Just be glad...and try and bank that sleep for when it all goes tits up!

Ds slept through from8 weeks, then reverted to twice a night from 12 weeks. Both he and dd stretched their feeds out quite early. I used to find that they'd feed a fair amount in the morning, not really much during the day, then cluster feed before bed.

Of course, growth spurts and illness throw everything out, so you just have to keep going with the flow.

my DD is 16 weeks now and started sleeping at least 8hr stretches from 4.5wks. With the exception of growth spurts, she sleeps anything from 9-12hrs per night with no feeds. However, she feeds every 1-2hrs during the day but I can live with this if I'm getting my sleep. Am dreading 4 month sleep regression, think it might be starting as she woke at 12 last night or that could've been me waking her up by practically knocking over my bedside table in my sleep

Thanks very much for the reassurance, you are right it may not last so I should just enjoy it!

Was weighed again yesterday and had put on 11oz since last Tues so I am happy Smile
