Is it ok to just stop breastfeeding, or can i get mastitis?

I have just stopped bfeeding, DD 14 months, last night. I have only been doing one night feed for the last couple of months, and now won't do any more feeds. Is it ok to just stop now, or do I need to express at all to prevent possible mastitis? My boobs are feeling a wee bit swollen. thanks for advice.

I had the same issue a few months back - DD decided she didn't want 'mummy milk' just before turning 1.

We had dropped to two feeds daily but I didn't have any problems - just a bit leaky.
Might be worth keeping an eye on things though if you're a bit sore and swollen. I had a blocked milk duct around 8 months into bf and had to take a course of antibiotics. They had no effect on DD at all, and sorted the problem out within a few days.

Enjoy having your boobs back! :)

I stopped at 14 months, we were also down to one feed a day.

I had swollen boobs for about 10 days, then they went back to normal. I also had a blocked milk duct. It wasn't painful, just a lump, but I had to go to hospital for an ultrasound to get it checked. Once they established what it was, they were able to stick a needle into it then and there and draw out the milk (it didn't hurt).
