Milk just come in and in pain....

Ds3 is 4 days old today and my milk has just come in. He was feeding very well and very often. However today, he has been on the sleepy side and hasn't fed that much so I am now full of milk and feeling rock hard and very uncomfortable. Of course when ds does feed, because they are so full he is struggling a little with the faster flow and gets full quickly so they are not fully drained ifkwim.

I will wake him up in about an hour or so and try to feed him before I go to bed. I will try to get him to take from each side but this is a little tricky as he gets full and when I change side he falls asleep.

Guess what I want to ask is will this sore full feeling die down over the next few day as my body gets used to producing milk again? I guess I just need to keep feeding him little and often? You think I would remember all this from last time!! ;)

I remember this it's do uncomfortable and aching Sad

Can you hand express into a cup before to soften then up? This really helped me (disclaimer: I have had to stop bf Sad).

My milk adjusted in two days so hopefully won't be long, then you forget about the pain.

I had this recently (DS now 6.5 weeks) I hand expressed in the shower to ease the fullness, it settled down after a couple of days.
Congratulations! Smile

Congratulations on your new LO. Smile Here is some info from kellymom which should be useful.

(the hot water helped too)

Congrats. I remember crying when it hurt so much and I was tired too! I found warm compresses and then hand expressing a bit out, helped. It should settle down though too. Good luck.

Savoy cabbage leaves are your best friend. Rinse them in water and keep in fridge then pop them in your bra, the relief is amazing. Apart from them being cool, they are meant to contin enzymes that help

While baby is feeding from one side have other boob exposed with muslin or something underneath it and let milk flow out while baby feeds. I found doing this emptied boob enough to get rid of hard engorged feeling.

Have also done this but with breast shells which meant I could collect the milk and freeze it.
