baby struggling to bf on one side

My sis has got a week old baby and has a slightly unusual nipple on one side. It still produces milk but it seems her baby is less keen feeding that side - any tips? Is it a case of dogged perseverance, or going down the expressing route?? Thanks for your thoughts.

I'm not an expert, just another BFing mum. My DD preferred my left side when she was born but I just persevered with the right side and she bent to my will Grin. Seriously though, has she considered trying the rugby hold on the side the baby doesn't like, to trick it into liking that side .
Sorry, am in v silly mood today Grin

Could she try alternating the position she holds the baby in? So if she currently cradles baby in front of her, she could try what I call the 'rugby ball' position, so the top of his head is near the cleavage end and the body is kind of curled around the side of her.

Most babies prefer one side to the other IME

Thanks for fndl34 - I think I agree about simply persevering... She already does the rugby hold so he's wise to her tricks Hmm

I keep reminding her it's very early days, but it's hard to stay confident first time round. Thanks

typically though I persevered with the right side and now it's her preferred side because left side has strong, squirty letdown. I fear DD will me high maintenance when older just like her mother Grin

I found this a problem too as my nipple on my right side is slightly inverted so DS had to go to a bit more effort to draw it out. If that's the case she could try to draw it out before popping baby on for a feed.
