Can any one think of a better word than extended ?

I have never liked the phrase extended breastfeeding.

To me it has negative connotations and is also very misleading: what are we extending and exactly when does the extended period start ?

Has anyone heard or used a more accurate term ?

Perhaps we should just talk about b/f as "extended" suggests going beyond a normal cut off point and like you, I'm not sure where that is supposed to be or who decided it!

On another board (Hunnybeez) someone suggested natural term breastfeeding (or something like that).

I like child led breastfeeding rather than self weaning as self weaning implies you're waiting to stop so reinforcing the whole must stop thing.
