Help! Going on holiday tomorrow and I have a nipple 'hole'!

Hi,

DD EBF, nearly 6 months, started few solids but mainly milk all day.
About a week/2 weeks ago my nipples and the inner bit of areola were red, almost like a bit of a rash, this has calmed down but there was quite a bit of dry skin particularly on right. A piece of this has come away and left a hole at base of nipple/areola. Initial latch stings as result but is then ok, have been using Lansing to try and fill the gap but not really healing, been bout 4 days now. The pain when latching on is getting worse if anything not better.

Is there anything else I can do?? Flying away on holiday for week tomorrow and don't want to be abroad with a worsening shredded nipple!

TIA

Here are some ideas for healing sore nipples.

This rash, has it been a problem with both nipples or just one? Whereabouts are you going on holiday?

Could you have thrush?

I would get some nipple shields and bring them with you in case you need them, as well as thrush treatment for you and the baby in case it is this (daktarin gel for baby and cream for you - you can buy OTC) and a pump in case feeding is too painful,

Where are you going?

We are going to Malta, got full travel insurance and ehic cards.
Not sure what their medical facilities are like though.

Rash was on both sides, is still there a bit just doesn't look so angry now.
I guess maybe it is thrush and the White bits falling off which u thought were dry skin actually weren't.
I do have a pump so will take that too, thanks.

Dont suppose you know what the policy is on breastfeeding in public in Malta?
Wouldn't think twice about doing it anywhere over here but don't want to go breaking any laws!

I BF my 1 year old there without a second glance so I think you will be fine!
I imagine the medical facilities etc will be fine too though you might want to clue yourself up on what you need if you do need to see a doctor. Hope that you don't. Have a good time!
